Targeted Tutoring Program

Reading Grades 1-3 | Math Grades 6-9

December 16 Update: Registration is now closed.

This targeted online tutoring program is run by Grand Valley State University through its K-12 Connect Program. Based on your child’s reading or math levels and teacher recommendation, we believe this program will be extremely beneficial for your child.

The program provides 12 weeks of virtual, one-on-one tutoring starting the week of January 16, 2023. Students will access the online tutoring program using devices provided by KHPS. Students will be tutored in three, 45-minute sessions each week to improve reading skills and confidence. Tutoring can take place during times that fit with family schedules on weekday evenings or weekends. KHPS will offer several awards for student participation and completion of the program to recognize and help motivate students.

This tutoring program aligns with KHPS reading and math curriculum and Grand Valley provides a tutor to support your student with their learning growth. Please note that all tutors are required to pass background checks and are trained by GVSU.

How to talk to your kids about online tutoring

We understand that some students may have reservations about participating in tutoring. Here are some talking points to get your kids interested:

  • Kenowa Hills will be providing several awards for student participation as well as at the completion of the program. These fun awards will be announced soon!
  • Tutoring is provided by GVSU college students who want to become teachers. While this is a great benefit to KH students, we are also helping to develop future teachers.
  • Because this tutoring is done at home, it can be done in private and at a time that doesn’t interfere with other activities.
